Miracle When He First Arrived

This poor Powderpuff Chinese Crested was barely able to stand when he was found by animal services. He was so covered with fleas that the water ran red when he was bathed. He was going to be euthanized, but shelter staff felt they saw a spark in him, and a desire to live. Local rescue volunteers took him home to feed him and contacted breed rescues looking for placement. When he arrived here the week after Thanksgiving, he was able to stand on shaky legs and had put on some weight. We named him Miracle because he needed one. Miracle was covered with staph infection from the fleas. Much of his coat was missing. He weighed just 4 lbs. He had

an upper respiratory infection, yeast infection in his ears, and an eye infection also. It was apparent immediately to us that Miracle did indeed want to live. He worked hard to walk and wanted to explore as much as possible. He was clearly housebroken and would let you know by coming to the end of the playpen when he wanted to be taken outside. Thanks to the wonderful people who worked to get him to rescue, Miracle is doing great and has a chance to live out the rest of his life. He is getting better every day. He continues to put on weight and can now go up and down steps, and will lay on his back and wrestle with your hand in play. He is a very loving dog, and will follow you around the house and comes right over when you call his name. When he has been rehabilitated and is healthy, Miracle will be available for adoption to a loving, approved home.

Update January 5, 2009

Miracle went for his second visit to the veterinarian.  He weighs 6.5 lbs and is doing quite well.  His skin is healing and hair is growing back.  We have scheduled him for a much needed dental, as his teeth are in very poor shape.

MIRACLE UPDATE

Miracle is just doing great.  He is a very nice lap dog.  Does not care for other dogs much, but he goes off on his own and settles into beds or curls up on rugs where it is quiet.  He does not try to cause problems with other dogs.  He loves to sit in your lap, and will come over to you if you are on the sofa and beg to be picked up.  He likes to "hand wrestle" with you too!  He absolutely HATES to have his ears worked with, and does get nippy with me when I have to put meds in his ears.  But, he has never bitten.  Just growls and tries to snap and get me to give up.  I do not give up.  He is also not thrilled with getting his eye drops for his dry eye.  But, that is so quick, he gets it done before he can get too grumpy.  I think Miracle will continue to be better behaved about having things done to him in time.  He was badly neglected, and most likely handled a bit rough.  As he learns to trust people again, he will do fine.

Miracle is housebroken.  Although his vision is poor, he will go out the door when you open it for him, and he can go down steps to the yard.  This boy has truly come a long, long way.

PLEASE NOTE

To Adopt Any of Our Dogs

  • You must first fill out an adoption application
  • We are not a kennel. Some foster homes may have visitation for the dogs. For the most part, after your application is reviewed and approved, we will bring the dog to visit you
  • In the case of long distance adoptions (further than 25 miles) we will bring the adoption paperwork with the dog on the day of the home visit. This arrangement can also be made for any adoption
  • You will have to sign an adoption contract and pay the adoption fee before the dog can be left with you
